Applied kinesiology involves the art and science of muscle testing. The word kinesiology comes from the words “kinesis” meaning movement and from “logos” meaning to study. It literally means the study of movement.
NET is used by Mind-oriented practitioners to help their clients process and release stress-related issues — both in mind and body.
While the NET protocol itself is not considered to be psychology, the following principles apply within the steps of NET:
- cognitive (identifying thoughts and internal dialog associated with recollections),
- emotional (identifying the emotions the recollection elicits), and
- behavioral (how the recollections affect actions, relationships, etc.).
According to Wikipedia, DNA methylation is the main way gene activity is adjusted during life, especially during early development.
It is a process by which methyl groups are added to DNA. This suppresses gene transcription. Two of DNA’s four nucleotides, cytosine and adenine, can be methylated. Since adenine methylation is restricted to prokaryotes, all eukaryote transcription is regulated by suppressing cytosine.
Suppressing genes is the basis of epigenetics, the study of changes in gene activity which are not caused by changes in the DNA sequence. It is the study of gene expression, the way genes bring about their phenotypic effects.
The changes in gene activity by methylation may last for the rest of the cell’s life, and for many generations of cells through cell divisions. However, there is no change in the underlying DNA sequence of the organism. Instead, non-hereditary factors cause the organism’s genes to behave (express themselves) differently.
Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century.
Dr. Karen uses adjusting tools (Activator and Percussor) and very light touch in her practice.
It’s not the force, it’s the finesse.
Adjusting Tool
The adjusting tool is electric and has a rubber tip on the end of it. The rubber tip is the about the size of the end of your finger. It can be put on the one joint you want to move and only move that one joint. There’s no popping or cracking with this instrument, which can scare some people.
Percussor
The percussor feels like a massager and it releases the tension in the muscles and in the spine. The percussor is used for doing CranioSacral Therapy.
Manual manipulation is not necessarily needed. The percussor and the adjusting tool are both used in Chiropractic adjustments. There are many patients, including babies, which Dr. Karen only uses the adjusting tool and the percussor for adjustments.
Dr. Karen uses her hands and the percussor when performing CranioSacral Therapy. CranioSacral Therapy focuses on the soft tissues.

Cold laser therapy is low-intensity laser therapy that stimulates healing while using low levels of light.
The technique is called “cold” laser therapy because the low levels of light aren’t enough to heat your body’s tissue. The level of light is low when compared to other forms of laser therapy, such as those used to destroy tumors and coagulate tissue.
Cold Laser is used for healing – including:
- Minor injuries and sprains
- Inflammation
- Aches and pains
- Skin rejuvenation
- Wound healing
Acupuncture treatments consist of inserting thin, disposable needles into the skin. Acupuncture is used to treat many different diseases, disorders and pain conditions. Common ailments that respond well to acupuncture include: tendinitis, arthritis, headaches, chronic pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, respiratory disorders, skin problems, dysmmenorhea and digestive disorders.
Acupuncture has proven to be successful in reducing stress, muscle tension, chronic pain (including headaches) and helping normalize menstrual irregularities. If the symptom is a result of an energy blockage within the body, acupuncture can encourage the body’s natural healing response. A Registered Acupuncturist can treat more complicated issues like digestive disorders, infertility, menstrual irregularities, skin problems as well as pain and stress relief.
Clinical nutrition is the practice of analyzing if a person is consuming an adequate amount of nutrients for good health.
A clinical nutritionist is concerned with how nutrients in food are processed, stored and discarded by your body, along with how what you eat affects your overall well-being.
